Selecting An Investment Banker
Updated: 02/05/2004

Format: MS Excel

This worksheet will assist you in selecting an investment banker by ranking the banks on 9 key criteria for M&A and IPO performance. The program is organized in a clear concise outline that will assist you in communicating your selection to your CEO and Board of Directors.

Software Notes:

Software Notes:

1) Input your company information in the blue highlighted cells. The black highlighted cells are fixed. We have protected these cells so you cannot inadvertently change a formula or item name. If you do which to change an item name or cell format in order to customize this spreadsheet to your business, simply click off the cell protection feature of your EXCEL software. Once saved, any changes you make to the program will be final.

2) To customize the worksheet to your company, review the weighting numbers for each of the selection criteria for M&A and IPO performance. On a scale of 0 to 1.0, change the weighted numbers (pre-set at 0.7) to numbers that reflect the priorities of you and your management team. It is extremely important that you get inputs from your entire
management team, since you'll need their buy-in during the selection process.

3) As you meet with investment bankers, input their name and the name of their firm.
Then, on a scale of 1 to 10, rank the bank on each of the 9 performance criteria. The
program will automatically calculate a weighted score for both M&A performance and IPO

4) You can update the program as you get new information from reference checks, industry
publications, and your accounting and law firms.
